Weight and balance

A Beam balance (or Beam scale) is a device to measure weight or mass. The traditional scale consists of two plates or bowls suspended at equal distances from a fulcrum. The reference datum is at location and measurements for other reference points, like the baggage area or the passenger seats, are made in relation to the reference datum. This is an important process when piloting an aircraft because the location affects performance characteristics of the aircraft and.

The center of gravity (CG) of an aircraft is the point over which the aircraft would balance. Its position is calculated after supporting the aircraft on at least two sets of weighing scales or load cells and noting the weight shown on each set of scales or load cells.

The following alteration was performed on an aircraft: A model B engine weighing 1pounds was replaced by a model D engine weighing 1pounds at a -62. The aircraft weight and balance records show the previous empty weight to be 9pounds and an empty weight CG of 13. What is the new empty weight CG?

From there, you just add passengers, baggage, takeoff fuel, and landing fuel, and you’re good to go! Etekcity Digital Body Weight Bathroom Scale with Step-On Technology, 4Pounds, Body Tape Measure Include Elegant Black. This is a matter of serious concern to all pilots as well as many other people involved in the flight. Figure 8: Sample weight and balance using a negative.

Computations with zero fuel weight.

In this example, the total weight of the airplane less fuel is 2pounds, which is under the zero fuel weight of 4pounds. Weight and balance ’s best analogy is a lever and fulcrum (think teeter-totter). If perfectly balanced on the fulcrum, the lever will be absolutely level.

Adding any weight to the lever upsets the balance , and how much influence the weight has depends on its location on the lever. Airplane manufacturers publish weight and balance limits for their airplanes. This information can be found in two sources: 1. The information in the Airplane Flight Manual is general for the particular model of airplane. ForeFlight Mobile’s smart setup interview asks questions about.

It must be subtracted from the scale weight reading to determine the net weight of the airplane. If a piece of equipment such as a radio is added to an aircraft, how can you determine the effect on weight and balance without re-weighing the aircraft?

The new Secura is a laboratory balance that does far more than set new standards in metrological specifications. Many of the performance, handling and structural characteristics of an airplane are a function of weight and balance. Not to mention the safety risk associated with operating an over loaded or out of balance airplane.
